Corporate History

People often ask us if there is a spelling mistake in the name of our company.  Well, not really… The name Santinel is a contraction of two words, santé (health in French) and sentinelle (guard), which become “Santinel”, because we are the guardians of your health.  We often tease our President, Michel Dubeau, for his excessive subtlety in this regard…

1981

Incorporation of Santinel by Michel Dubeau.  Santinel specializes in occupational health and safety training.  Its head office is in St. Hilaire.

1983

Michel Dubeau leaves McGill University in order to further develop Santinel, which specializes in OHS training and services.
Santinel hires its first employee, Claude Léger, who was to remain 10 years with the company.

1984

Santinel is growing and now has 5 employees.  The company expands its expertise to accident prevention, and moves to new premises at 515 Ste-Catherine.

1985

The LATMP is enacted.  Santinel expands its expertise to the management of accident records and CSST contributions.  Santinel is the first firm specializing in "OHS record management".

Following a competitive bid call, Santinel is accredited by the CSST to provide first aid training to workers in the workplace.

1986

Santinel hires a young secretary, Carole Brunet, who has grown with the company and occupied several responsibility positions: First Aid, Finances, etc.  She is currently head of Computer Services.

1988

Cramped for space, Santinel moves to 3467 Papineau across the street from Lafontaine Park.  Through successive expansions, Santinel would remain there until 2005.

1989

Santinel computerizes its services and adopts a solid structure.  Various departments are created and Directors are named.  Santinel has 12 employees

1990

A Sales Department is created.  Santinel initiates a long and costly legal action to obtain refund of contributions for over declared payroll (more than one billion dollars).  This long battle landed in the Supreme Court, where it was finally settled in Santinel’s favor in 2000.  Result?  Santinel’s clients were able to recuperate several million dollars from the CSST.
Santinel hires Gilles de Tilly.  Still with the company, Gilles is Director of Santinel’s Occupational Hygiene Department.

1991

A hard recession year which, combined with the battle against the CSST, forces Santinel to reduce its workforce to 20 employees.

Santinel hires Nancy Evoy.  Still with Santinel, Nancy is Director of Santinel’s Management and Prevention Department.

Santinel hires Viviane Rivard, a promising first aid instructor.  Still with Santinel, Viviane is currently Director of the Training Department.

1992

Santinel invents a recession proof service: "self-financing management of health and safety".  Risky, yes, but a great success!

Santinel hires Lise LeBrun, a dynamic corporate services management assistant.  Lise, is still with Santinel, and is currently Director of Administrative Services.

1993

Santinel gets involved in the creation and development of "Les logiciels Sentinel" which, driven by its director and associate, Patrice Poirier, was to become SIGMA-RH Solutions (www.sigma-rh.com).

1995

Following the implementation of new federal regulations regarding confined space safety, Santinel initiates a long collaboration with the Department of National Defense and, later, Bell Canada.  This wonderful collaboration is still underway.

1998

Santinel changes its corporate image for the shadow of the guard, as we know it.

2000

Santinel restructures its business plan, making first aid worker training a "market penetration service".  The sales department is restructured and based on a "telemarketing" team.

2001

Santinel is 20 years old and has 30 employees.  Its sister company, SIGMA-RH Solutions, already has 10.

Santinel works hard on structuring its first aid worker training and on computerizing its business/operation processes.

2002

Santinel is the CSST’s largest supplier of first aid worker training.  More than 1000 workers are trained each month.

Santinel develops a distribution partnership with NORTH, thus becoming an important distributor of first aid material.

Santinel develops a partnership with Zoll, the greatest defibrillator manufacturer in North America.

2005

Santinel expands its emergency intervention activities; several important organizations are among its clients.

Santinel expands its activities to virtual fire extinction training on a simulator.  It develops a distribution partnership for North America with the French company "IFOPSE", becoming its exclusive distributor for North America, and a partnership with the firemen’s school of Collège Notre-Dame-de-Foy in Quebec City.

Santinel buys a building and moves to the South Shore of Montreal at 1061, Ste-Foy Blvd.  in Longueuil.

2006

Santinel launches its new Website and corporate logo
