Driving of an Aerial Basket Lifting Device
A Training that saves lives
and conforms to the Law
In Quebec, working in high restrained locations results in a considerable number of accidents each year. A common denominator for all of the accidents is frequently due to a lack of training (training on the use and inspection of equipment). The vast majority of accidents lead to very serious and lethal injuries of workers.
Recently, the review of article 263.1 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act specified that every worker operating an aerial basket lifting device must undergo training. This article however is intended only for vehicle-mounted aerial devices. For other types of aerial basket lifting devices, one must refer to article 51 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act to confirm the mandatory training for operators of all types of aerial basket lifting devices, including scissor lifting devices. Moreover, the CSST has created a file entitled ‘’NOTICE OF DANGER’’ to sensitize employers and workers to the risks inherent in such equipment and remind them of the importance of training workers and inspecting all equipment in use.
